We hope everyone gets a chance to read this note regarding how we are conducting the rides, or actually the whole weekend, in Idyllwild this coming May. Some of you may have a preconceived notion of how rides and events are to be conducted. I would hate to have you show up and be disappointed.<\/p>\n
This policy is a tongue-in-cheek way of saying that I expect everyone to have a good time, doing the things you want to do, at your own pace. I am not expecting anyone to do anything or be anywhere.<\/p>\n
Our\u00a0agenda calls for us to leave at a certain time and go to a certain place.\u00a0If you decide to sleep in and skip the ride, that\u2019s great.\u00a0I will not come looking for you.\u00a0If you decide to take a short cut back, no big deal.\u00a0If you don\u2019t call or text, We\u2019ll presume that you are OK.<\/p>\n
If you do need help, call or text us. Our\u00a0cell phone numbers\u00a0will be available at the beginning of each ride.\u00a0There are lots of resources for help and we can take care of you and your bike. We\u00a0may not get your message right away, but we\u00a0will check for messages often.<\/p>\n
What we don’t do:<\/strong><\/em> Some of you may be used to a \u201cRide Leader\u201d who leads the group from point to point on a ride.\u00a0Ride Leaders conduct their ride much like a parade, minus the band (unless you have a GoldWing along).\u00a0If the ride leader goes left, everyone goes left.\u00a0If the ride leader\u00a0goes right, everyone goes right.\u00a0The ride leader, working with a \u2018sweep\u2019 rider, keeps the group together.\u00a0This approach is very organized.\u00a0This is not our approach.<\/em><\/p>\n What we do:<\/strong><\/em> On this weekend\u2019s rides, YOU are your own Ride Leader. Lou & Howard, as Ride Coordinators, have given you a suggested route and agenda.\u00a0From there, you are on your own. I want this to be an adventure with friends, not a parade.<\/p>\n Go where you want, when you want.\u00a0If you want to jet ahead, we\u2019ll meet you at the destination.\u00a0If you want to go slower, we\u2019ll meet you at the destination.\u00a0It is totally up to you.\u00a0All I ask is that you ride within your own comfort level, and to be considerate of the safety of others.<\/p>\n I will admit now, I am not the fastest rider in the group.\u00a0I will be riding at my own comfort level also. It is OK to pass me. Hopefully you know where you are going.<\/p>\n Break up into groups of 3-4 bikes.\u00a0Try to look for someone who rides your pace and style.\u00a0Find someone familiar with the area if you get lost easy.<\/p>\n BRING A WATCH.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0We will do events this weekend by the posted agenda.\u00a0It\u2019s up to you to be on time.\u00a0We will not wait for anyone.\u00a0We will assume you didn\u2019t want to go.<\/p>\n We\u00a0will not be bringing extra route sheets and maps.\u00a0Please save me some ink and print out your own. If you are unfamiliar with the area, bring a map!<\/p>\n The routes will be available on your cell phone as well, but many areas on\u00a0the ride do not have cell phone coverage. \u00a0Paper is king.<\/p>\n We\u00a0want to everyone to have a good time.\u00a0A fundamental part of having a good time is not having a bad time\u2026.\u00a0Being a safe rider makes you more fun.\u00a0See how that works.<\/p>\n On this ride, safety is everyone’s business.
